What happens if a student encounters harmful content?
The student should be able to stop, tell an adult, and get support. The school should already have named who reviews the thread, who contacts families when needed, and how the tool is adjusted afterward.
Harmful or inappropriate content is a when, not an if, if students use generative tools at scale. The policy should say what the student should do (leave the chat, tell a teacher or counselor) and what the school will do (review, support the student, notify the right people, change a setting if needed).
Tools that can alert an adult — instead of leaving the moment in a private consumer thread — make that response possible. Write the escalation path before the first incident.
