What is HeyOtto for Schools?

It’s the classroom version of the platform, built for K–12 teachers and districts. It adds a teacher dashboard, district-level admin controls, anti-cheating modes, and curriculum-aligned responses — so the school, not just individual families, decides how students use it.

Is my child’s school already using this?

HeyOtto for Schools is currently rolling out with a small, intentional group of pilot schools rather than being broadly available everywhere. If your school hasn’t mentioned it, you can ask them to request a demo, or reach out to HeyOtto directly.

Is this the same thing as the HeyOtto app my child might use at home?

Same underlying assistant, but a school account is configured and controlled by the school — teachers and admins decide which tools are turned on, when Otto is available, and how conversations are filtered. It isn’t simply your child’s personal account following them into the classroom.

How does HeyOtto handle privacy for kids?

HeyOtto is designed for minors with parental controls and consent flows in mind, without ads used to monetize student attention. For what your district agreed to — including consent, data use, and vendor terms — ask your school about their HeyOtto agreement and read HeyOtto’s privacy policy. Those details can vary by district.

How is this safer than my kid just using ChatGPT?

HeyOtto layers age-adaptive responses with real-time safety monitoring and content filtering. General AI chatbots weren’t built with a child’s safety as the starting design constraint; this product is.

What data gets collected about my child?

HeyOtto is designed to avoid collecting unnecessary personal information, with no ads and no selling student data for advertising. For the exact terms your district agreed to, your school’s HeyOtto contract and HeyOtto’s privacy policy will have the specifics — those can vary by district.

Will my child see ads or be tracked for advertising?

No — HeyOtto does not run ads against kids in the consumer or school products.

How Otto Works in the Classroom

What can my child actually do with it at school?

That depends on what the teacher or school has switched on. Students may get homework support, writing help, and — on some configurations — tools like code or image generation. Schools choose the tool set, so access can differ by classroom or grade.

Is it available all day, or just during class?

Schools can restrict access to school hours or specific class periods, so it’s not necessarily something students can reach around the clock.

Does it just do my kid’s homework for them?

No, by design. Homework Helper Mode is built to guide a student toward an answer through questions and step-by-step explanations rather than handing over a finished response, and it includes prompts asking students to show their thinking instead of just copying an output.

Academic Integrity & Cheating

How does the school stop kids from using this to cheat?

A few things work together: every student conversation is visible to teachers (no hidden chats), Otto is built to guide rather than solve, and it includes citation prompts to reinforce proper sourcing. During tests, schools can enable a dedicated Test Mode that turns off creative features, blocks outside links, restricts Otto to reference-only responses, and flags conversations that look like cheating attempts.

Can teachers actually see what my child asks it?

Yes. Teacher dashboards give live visibility into student conversations, alerts when something is flagged, and searchable archives for record-keeping.

Support for Every Learner

Does it adjust to my child’s grade level or reading ability?

Responses are designed to align with Common Core and state standards and to match a student’s current reading level, with separate content-filtering tiers for elementary versus high school.

My child has an IEP/504 plan, or is an English learner — does it account for that?

HeyOtto for Schools includes features meant to support differentiated instruction — including IEP/504-oriented accommodations and English Language Learner support — plus reading-friendly formatting, breaking tasks into smaller steps, clearer more literal communication, and enrichment content for advanced learners. What Parents Can Still See

Do I still get visibility, even though it’s school-managed?

HeyOtto describes parents and schools as retaining visibility into usage, while also letting schools preserve some parent-child conversation privacy where appropriate alongside class-wide insight for educators. Because districts can configure this differently, confirm directly with your school what you’ll specifically be able to see.

What if I don’t want my child using AI at school at all?
