What is AI in education?
AI in education is software that can generate text, images, code, or recommendations and is used to learn, teach, or run a school. Students already meet it in search results, writing tools, coding platforms, creative apps, and products their school already uses — not only in a standalone chatbot.
Artificial intelligence in schools is not one product. It is a set of systems that predict, generate, or recommend — then get used for homework, planning, research, coding, and operations.
Students already encounter AI when a search engine summarizes a topic, a writing tool offers a rewrite, a coding site completes a function, or a creative app generates an image. Teachers meet it in lesson-planning tools. The question is not whether AI is present. It is whether the school has decided how it should be used.
A useful definition stays practical: AI in education is any AI-powered tool that students, teachers, or staff use to learn, create, assess, or operate the school — with adults still responsible for the decisions that matter.
