How can schools make AI safer?
Schools make AI safer by approving tools, matching access to age, keeping adults able to see student use, setting hours and tool allowlists, teaching students what not to share, and naming who responds when something is unsafe.
Safer AI is a stack, not a filter toggle:
- Approve tools before students use them
- Match access and filtering to grade level
- Keep an adult able to review conversations
- Turn tools on or off by class — code, images, search
- Set when the tool is available
- Teach students what never to enter
- Name reporting and escalation
Write those expectations into the AI policy, then pick tools that can actually hold them.
