Is AI safe for students?
AI is not automatically safe for students. Safety depends on age-appropriate access, content controls, adult visibility, what data the tool collects, and what happens when something goes wrong. Unrestricted consumer tools are a different risk than school-managed student AI.
“Is it safe?” is the wrong first question if it expects a yes or no. Ask: safe for which ages, with which controls, and with which adults able to see the thread?
Student safety includes harmful or inappropriate content, unsafe requests, oversharing of personal information, and the absence of a human when something needs one. A school-managed environment with filtering, hours, and alerts is not the same as a student opening a consumer chatbot on a personal account.
