Should students have unrestricted access to AI?
No. Unrestricted access skips age-appropriate limits, tool allowlists, hours, and adult visibility. Students can still use AI well inside bounds the school has chosen.
Unrestricted access usually means any tool, any hour, any capability — including image generation, web search, or code — with no adult in the loop. That is a poor default for K–12.
Bounds are not the same as a ban. A school can allow tutoring, projects, and literacy practice while turning tools off by grade, limiting hours to the school day, and keeping conversations visible. That is how you teach responsible use instead of hoping for it.
