AI Safety

How does AI safety work for children?

AI safety for children means age-appropriate products, limits on what the model will do, adult visibility, and a path to a human when content is concerning. Younger students need tighter tools and closer supervision than high schoolers.

Children should not be dropped into a general-purpose adult chatbot. Safety for kids and teens usually combines product design (what the model will refuse or redirect), school controls (who can use which tools), and people (who sees the thread and who is called when something is flagged).

Elementary use should stay simple, guided, and close to an adult. Middle and high school can add more tools — with integrity, privacy, and monitoring still on. The same student should not get the same defaults at age 8 and age 17.
