How do you explain your AI policy to parents?
Send a short plain-language note: why the school is using AI, which tools are approved, how adults supervise students, what is allowed on homework, and how families can ask questions. Link the full policy; do not ask parents to read a 20-page PDF first.
Parents usually want three things: Is my child safe? Will AI do their homework for them? Who can see what they type? Answer those up front in one page or a short email, then offer the full policy for anyone who wants detail.
What to say in the family note
Why the school is introducing student AI. Which tools are approved (and that personal consumer accounts are not the school plan). How teachers or advisors can see activity. How academic integrity and disclosure work on assignments. How to contact the school with concerns. Optional: a classroom FAQ night or recorded walkthrough.
Avoid jargon and compliance theater. Do not promise certifications you have not verified. Do promise that AI at school is for learning with adult visibility — and that the policy will be reviewed as tools change.
