Is AI safe for student data?
Not automatically. Safety for student data depends on what the tool collects, how it is used, who can access it, whether it trains models, and whether the school has evaluated those practices before students log in.
An AI system is not a private notebook. Prompts, uploads, and conversation history can be stored, reviewed, or — depending on the product — used to improve models. “Safe for student data” means the school has read those practices and decided they are acceptable.
Prefer school-managed identity over personal consumer accounts, limit what students and staff enter, and treat privacy as part of the approved-tool list. See the Trust Center for how HeyOtto describes its own practices.
