What student information should never be entered into AI?
Do not enter personally identifiable information, student records, health information, passwords, confidential school information, private communications, or sensitive images. When in doubt, leave it out.
Students and staff should treat an AI prompt like a form that might be stored. Keep these out unless a school-approved tool and a written process explicitly allow a narrow use:
- Names with other identifying details, addresses, phone numbers
- Student records and grades beyond what the assignment requires
- Health or counseling information
- Passwords and account credentials
- Confidential school information
- Private messages or recordings
- Images or recordings that identify students without a reason and a process
