How can teachers tell if a student used AI?
There is no perfect tell. Process evidence — drafts, in-class writing, oral explanation, and visible AI threads in a school tool — is more reliable than a detector score. Ask students to show their thinking.
Style shifts, generic phrasing, or a sudden leap in quality can be a signal. They are not proof. AI detectors misfire on both student writing and AI writing, especially for multilingual students.
